Hej y'all.

Because of the disappointing Blessed are the sick re-release documentary bonus disc and Uni777's disappointment for bonus dvd's in general, I've decided to ease the pain by sharing the show I offered Dig Pearson of Earache to include it on that BATS re-release bonus disc, that was then still to be released.

He declined however and made that docu instead, which at least lacks key members Trey & Pete and gives us talking roadies.

So now I'm sharing this anyway, for the sake of paying homage to my favorite Morbid angel era which needed to be done justice. Just for the diehard Morbid Angel fans on this board and nowhere else. Please don't link this to other boards and keep it low-profile. In an older thread, I've posted Dead shall rise from this show.

I once got it in a trade from user Anomander, but I haven't seen her anymore on the board nor have I spoken to her for a long time. I hope you don't mind me sharing

this great concert, which I've enjoyed very much and pretty often, and if you want to trade again, please contact me.

Don't get me wrong dude.. I do not dislike the idea of bonus stuff, but make it worthwile. Nowadays it is almost mandatory to include stuff like that on the ltd.ed. in the hope people buy it instead of downloading. Only so little is actually interesting.

You know what really disapointed me? Eric Partlow (the guitar tech from the Blessed DVD) knows everything about Trey's setup from back in the days. But there is absolutly no talk about this stuff. For instance, Trey blew up his stuff at the Dynamo festival. He actually bought new amplification in Holland for the rest of the tour (he told so in an interview).

Eric talked to a guitar mag for a setup of the stars type of deal back in 93 and in that interview is more info in two sentences than in his feature on the disc.

The whole thing was so easy... Punchy did the production. Karl from Nile recorded at Punchy's place (What the hell is this hard-on bearer doning on the DVD while Trey is missing..?. Elliot, the owner of Dean where David works get's some free advertising and quite conveiniently shows the new Michael Ammot Signature guitar next to him.. It is all so cheap and something i would have never expected from am band who's integrety with the stuff they released was so high.

In the case of MA it is most probably Earache cheaply cashing in on old stuff. First the remasters with extended booklets... Then the CD/DVD versions. Formula's on vinyl. (How the fuck can you leave out the invocation on the sleeve of that release...? It is basicly the red line through all the songs on that release.) They licenced the Covenant LP to painkiller i believe. I wonder if they are able to do any CD rereleases of C and D as they were signed to Giant in the US at the time...

Anyone there who has been able to decipher what david actually sings during Dead shall rise? Those are not the original lyrics. The chorusses are authentic but the verses appear to be changed. This clip has been on youtube for a while and i still find it hard to hear.

My standpoint however, is that a bonus dvd should have at least relevant live material from the supporting tour.

And btw; the precise lyrics of Dead shall rise have always been an enigma to me.

Yes, with a re-release that would be nice, but with a new one that is not possible ofcourse. And in that case there could be a liittle more thought going into the content of the product.

Ok, now you're referring to the upcoming album. Now it's Season of mist and I have a feeling that they, hosting quite a few quality metalbands and being able to cough up the money Morbid angel initially asked, hopefully won't go cheap on the project. I also have high expectations since specialists like Erik Rutan and Tim Yeung are involved.

SOM is indeed a label which seems to have their hearts in the right place. The Immo Hope and Horror EP had a nice gig added on DVD. Actually better that the "official"' DVD. (Ross likes this one better too)

Concerning MA, the complete wacken show would be nice. Sound quality wise it is very good..

The first Immolation dvd was also the first recording from Lowlife media and that shows; too much sideshots and too little front-center.

Above that, the audience clearly came for main act Cradle of Filth.

Including the complete Wacken 2006 gig is a great idea!!

I agree with those dvd's lacking substance for die hard fans, but sometimes I also think that maybe not every musician wants to share his secrets.

I remember a docu (I think 'A walk with the band') of Dream theater where James LaBrie was going through the backstage explaining some equiptment, when he lateron stumbled upon something (on the mixing board? I can't remember exactly) where he suddenly held his hand over something and said that he didn't want people to see this device.

Al in all, I think bonus dvd docu's are more to give the outsider an impression of what's going on rather then really go into details. Specifics would rather be something for a standalone release with a special section or in indeed in interviews in specialized mags where there can be more deeper digging.

I'd like to read that interview with Trey though, any chance to scan and upload it?

It reminds me that every Dynamo gig is proshot recorded on SECAM equiptment; Metal Mike told me that every band who asks can get the tape for free. That would also be a great release!!

Jeez... If i remember correctly it was a interview Mike van Mastigt (EX-Sinister) did when he did a small fan-zine. Copied and on A5 format.. Terribly written. A lot of words phonetically written down

I could for the life of me not remember where it is. Anyway i do not have a scanner. Used to have a 30.000 euro scanner at work so i did not bother to buy one.

I intent to buy one though. When i do i'll start searching for all those clippings. I think there are some more nice thingies there.

Sure man, I'm sure many like that trait of the short breathiness because it has it's own character in a way. It's really a subjective thing for me; I just really liked the full-toned and very bread-basket like vocals he started to get going between 94 - 96 with the extended phrasing and open annunciation. Great vid and show nonetheless man!

I agree it's definately subjective, since I also like alcohol and cigarette-broken singing voices, not necesserally metal btw.

My favorite is the voice he had in the Covenant era as it shows in the well-known MTV recording:

I wish I would get hold of this full gig recording.

Anyway, since I like staccato in metal which feel like short, fruital attacks, short breathiness fits in this San Antonio gig imo.

The Domination era has different qualities voice-wise imo: sadly the sound isn't that deep (apart from 'Bringer of dooom..!), but that 'shortcoming' is compensated with character, like on Hatework; the subtle high in 'this calls for fire' for instance I found quite original.

I seriously feared his higher pitch nowadays was due to too much smacks/electricity/piercing/whatever to the balls by his wife, but somebody posted a video were he proves he still has that lower voice. I hope that comes out a lot again.

Well I went to the Nile forum to find some answers but this is what I got from Punchy before the mod Hoff closed the topic:

Why is Karl on the Blessed DVD?

Because he is. Therefore he is.

Look, it is not uncommon for peers to comment on each others documentaries. I was in town collecting pre-production footage for "Making things that Gods Detest" and asked Karl and Dallas to comment on "Blessed". (Anyone with an eye for continuity will notice the similarities in the shots) They just had several comments that were pertinent to the subject matter and they said it with such eloquence that it had to be included. Besides...it was a nice crossover piece...like when Spider Man would show up in an X-Men issue....or when Laverne and Shirley did guest spots on Happy Days.

Also, it is important to note Karl's long history with Morbid Angel that dates back to before Morbid was even signed! Dallas also has been friends with the band since 1998. We are all one big happy-ass family!

As the "film maker" for "Tales of the Sick" I wanted to show how Morbid's record and tour for "Blessed" transcended conventional thinking for the day and the "Essential Salt" (if you will) was its innovation.

I only wanted to talk to/show people that were producers or products of its genius.

Now...I hope that helps you in your quest for truth!

'Only remaining question' implies to Hoff that I never gonna stop asking. It sounds more to me that 'he has sand in his vagina' telling how annoyed he is.

I think Uni777 made some strong points earlier in this topic and considering these,

I feel I'm screwed as a fan by buying the same album for the third time on cd for a dvd which has only 1 of 4 bandmembers, but at the same time a whole other band, that has nothing musically substancial to mention about it, other than stuff like 'it's great' 'it's groundbreaking' & 'it raised the bar'.

People buy their cd's multiple times, buy their shirts and attend their concerts when they can, then why screw the buying fans over with a release of such a superficial product for such a great and sophisticated record.
