apparently it is a stereotype. i didn't know this until my (black) manager at a restaurant i worked at about ten years ago pointed it out to me. she said something like "you probably don't know what kool-aid is, poor black kids drink it 'cause it's cheap." this was news to me as i grew up drinking kool aid with enough sugar in it to make me go
