There are others I'm sure I'm forgetting right now as I am hungover. Someone once told me to check out Stanley Clarke, but I do not know of him.

I can't disagree more. It's a big misuse of potential talent to just have them hold down the bottom end.

My favorites are Jeroen Paul Thesseling from Obscura and Magnus Olsfelt from The Crown. Jeroen Paul Thesseling, in particular, is the standard by which death metal bassists should be measured. His sound is positively sinister.

but Geezer frequently would play something different from the guitars, he was excellent at harmonizing with the guitar to create one sound

top clip was erlend caspersen from allseeing i / vile / blood red throne / a few other projects. bottom was guitar player and bass player from defeated sanity playing through a song prob as a tutorial...
