That's pretty true; they did really start to suck out after Max left. While Max also began declining after, Soulfly >>> post-Max Sepultura.

I didn't hear their later ones...it was around the 3rd and 4th that they lost it...did they get better? I just wrote them off!

They stopped playing death metal entirely, but put out some good music. Amok, The Cold White Light, and The Funeral Album were all enjoyable.

I think bands like Metallica and Sepultura are a given although their last few records were definitely a step in the right direction.

Cryptopsy is the clear winner here. That last record was one hell of a big jump down the cliff from Once Was Not. Also...Dimmu Borgir.
