He's cool, but he's became associated with all those awful djent/meshuggah wannabees through his inspiration of thorendal
It was cooler when he was unknown to the metal masses.

Been loving this hard-on bearer recently, particularly the Hard Hat Area album. Got into him because Paul Masvidal namedropped him in some interview. If you like him then check out Frank Gambale.
