If you look at MA rehearsal videos from BATS era, you can hear Trey jamming GOE riffs, so it definitely wasn't written from scratch.

If you know that David is the dominant bandmember now, saving the band from dissolvement and leading the band on while Trey has been all the in-between years out partying with drugs instead of writing more riffs, (that's why I indeed expected the initial 6 drumtracks were to become only 6 songs) it's already easy to conclude that Trey has given in on a lot of factors.

Trey isn't the big personality anymore, but has become weak (compared to David) in his backbone as well as in his playing skills. Ironically Pete has a lot more backbone and I'm sure that with him on board, this album would've turned out a lot different...

Ha ha! Don't disagree with you regarding Pete. Although not quite as an extreme situation, it's kind of like the Metallica question - would they ever have got so crap if Cliff had survived?

I'm not saying Morbid Angel has turned crap; I need to hear the record itself first: to me it needs to sound inspired, but considering not even all 6 songs are written by Trey but some also only by Thor, I expect our 'Riff daddy' has 'fallen from grace'. I even would go that far that not playing F, G & H isn't just a David Vincent vs lyrics/ not liking these songs thing; I wouldn't be surprised if Trey can't play them well anymore! Trey needs a creative kick in the butt from Pete!

Surely one of the main differences that they would have to settle would be Trey's opinion that David's lyrics were becoming worldy and not spiritual? I assume that a lot of that came form David becoming much more interested in worldly matters i.e. politics.



David told me that it became very difficult to work within the constaints of MA at that time and that him and Trey were two big personalities that were struglling to be in the same band.



Reading between the lines, it was obvious that there was a series difference in ideologies. If that is the case, then either David has left the potentially dodgy stuff behind, as he indicated, or Trey has embraced it, which is hardly likely. Seems pretty relevant, therefore, to touch on the political side of things.



Maybe you're right though, might not work in context and potentially stir up a hornets' nest!? Will be great to do the interview and listen to the album, lucky you.

It's not that I don't find these questions to be interesting. It's just that David already answered them on numerous occasions. David says that the two main themes of his lyrics are Individualism and Power (on a personal level). That's something that fuses quite well with Trey's T. Robbins "worship". The first verse of Nevermore is thematically pretty close to let's say Fall From Grace minus the occult references.

Morbid Angel is not a band that plays for entertainment, they are a group of invidiualists doing whatever the fuck they want. They are not the kind of band that puts requested tunes on the setlist because fans are asking for it. Of course they are very greatful for all the respect and love from fans, but seriously. Do you think they care wtf you're thinking about them? And isn't the answer quite obvious about how they left Steve-tunes outside? David doesn't like them. He stated once that "There is no hate" in the songs, for example.

I appreciate your contribution and I will ask him. David always repeated how important it was for him to have a direct emotional connection to every word he screamed. That it was all 100% honest and real. He didn't have anything to do with F, G and H. So I can personally understand why he wouldn't want to perform those songs live. Makes sense.

The tracks without real drums I consider filling material like the instrumentals from the previous albums. It's just my way of still considering this as Morbid Angel.

Album J will sound like a mix between The Acacia Strain and Deadmau5. It will be called "Jesus Sucks A Lot" and they wil tour with Suicide Silence all year, not headlining, in support of Suicide Silence.



Really though, I'm with everyone else in here in that I don't particularly like the direction in which the spirit of this band is going. I think they're completely capable of tastefully making an interesting crossover, but I really don't think Illud Divinum Insanus is an interesting crossover. I think it'll just be banal.

The drums of six tracks were recorded at Mana. The rest of the drum tracks I believe were recorded at Red Room studios. In the pics section of David's Facebook, there's a picture with a title that says " David with Mark Prator at Red Room studios checking drum levels". There's also another pic of Tim behind his kit at a recording space that doesn't seem to be Mana.

The vocals were recorded there too. Guitars were tracked at Juan "Punchy" Gonzales's studio according to Tim.

i feel that at this point it's amazing that MA is still making music, and kind of feel that they get a free pass for albums a-d.

Some of it really amazed me! David was super polite and we talked more than an hour. This was really a dream coming true!
