@ Verbal: That's a hard one to e x plain in English for me, as in Dutch it already pretty difficult to bring that into words.

Lets just say that people meditate to get inner rest. Certain sounds can bring you into a trance like state for instance the AOUM.

Making music can have that same effect. A release or cleansing if you will.

I'm sure people here can e x plain it better than me, but that is how it works for me. I hope this does not trigger jet another shitfest about mumbo jumbo and spirituality. It is purely personal and that's how it should be.

By spirituality i've not meant the literal meaning or i can say its the wrong word for the same thing.

Scientifically

What i meant was, when some one make music the sub-conscious mind place the feeling coming from the conscious and thus received by the sub-conscious of the listener. So when i listen to MA my sub-conscious mind receives it and my conscious feels it like I am in a new world.

Pity? Surely you jest. Again, whatever floats your boat. I would assume someone cares enough to post on a message board about a specific band for it to "matter enough".. I just don't get all weepy or emotional when listening to music. It makes me feel good and gives me good vibes and all. But I'm not in a trance or think about my reality or the meaning of life and it's existence or any other mumbo jumbo.

I enjoy it for what it is, entertainment and a hobby. Heck, I just went on the 70K Tons of Metal Cruise. Had a blast. Didn't see any of the 2,000 people mediatating on that thing :santa:

I wasn't trying to be a dick by comparing it to religous bullshit. I'm fairly sure you just mean you like the relaxing feeling or stream of consciousness you get when you listen to MA. Like putting on some headphones, close your eyes, and "let it all go".

I just find the "religionesque type language", for want of a better description, infuriating. :redneck:

Okay, I want you to just relax. Take a deep breath. I think you've probably had what we call a "stroke". It can be quite serious, but luckily we've caught it early. I've called the ambulance and they should be with you shortly. Just try and stay calm. Help is one the way.

Sounds, smells and such thing can be stepping stones to focus on, to alter your state of mind. Before every gig i do try to have a moment of seclusion and get into "the zone". And i know plenty of people who do that. Incencse works for me too. I torched a whole box recording my stuff.. :redneck:

Indeed a lot of folks make it look gimmicky. And for me personally there is a difference between being religious and spiritual.

I'll leave it at that as i find it hard to e x plain in another language.

I guess to each their own, but I find the "spiritual connection" a tad disturbing.
Are you saying you do NOT find a spiritual connection or there is one and each has to find it himself, just curious :santa:
People can feel any way they want. I just find it a it "odd", "strange" or just "look at me I'm deep" when people claim "spirituality" about music (or most anything else).
Spirituality and music have been intertwined from the earliest moments of human spirituality. It doesn't seem strange at all to see that.

Creativity is the closest thing to spirituality I welcome. It triggers the same portions of my brain that 'religion' once did, before I realized common-spirituality is a total shit and declared myself an Atheist. It feels good and I welcome the feeling it brings. I let that feeling flow through in my own creations and I feel it very heavily in Morbid Angel's music.

Considering the long link between music and spirituality in mankind's history, the purpose of it is something neurobiologists should look for (and I would love to read research into it).
Exactly this.

I am an atheist myself, but the power of music is something I cannot fail to acknowledge. It contains the dualities of both the Apollonian and Dionysian, intense self wisdom and liberating chaos. In music there are no rules, there are no boundaries, there is only limitless potential waiting to be unleashed in whatever way possible (This is similar to what I feel about human beings in general, in that there is a vast potential to do whatever we want lying inside each of us and all we have to do is tap into it in order to achieve whatever we want and become great). Taking both your knowledge and frustrations and channeling it into one single force can result in something so powerful [everything up to and including H] that the result is something so personal and yet so unifying that it's incredibly hard to describe.

It's even more special to me personally because Trey was raised similar to the manner in which I was raised, in that he was raised in a strict Baptist environment, so I feel that some of our frustrations and feelings are the same. I'm also very interested in studying pagan pantheons and religions/cults, so lyrical poetry intertwined with that symbolism is very cool to me.

If anyone fails to recognize the power of music in this manner, then please study and read about the Dionysian mystery cults of yesteryear, it's in credibly fascinating. The quote in my signature is from Nietzsche's book The Birth of Tragedy, where he discusses the Apollonian and the Dionysian in relation to creativity, that is theater and music.

One interesting thing: we would not have theater if it were not for the Greek god Dionysus and his mysteries.

Couldn't have said it better myself. Nietzsche is of course my boy. Incidently, our (DR) album the burning passion was completely based on Apollonian and Dionysian elements, conceptually not necessarily overt themes and references to the mythology; the chaos and order of one's self.

This. I don't think anyone here uses the word "spiritual" in a religious sense as is being taken. It's use has more to do with emotions/feelings that are a bit too abstract too properly put out there. When I read Lovecraft I feel like my consciousness has been slightly altered. Same thing when I listen to Deathspell Omega. Art can do odd, beautiful things to the mind and spiritual is the tag applied. Spirit = consciousness to me.

Dude, first off, don't quote me if I never actually said it. Second of all, your head is so far up your ass you seem to miss the point EVERY SINGLE GOD DAMN TIME.

There's personal opinion: what you evaluate as "good" or "bad".

There's collective opinion: a shared evaluation with a group of people such as Mabb.

There's infrastructure: this is the essence of something; the elements thereof; the skeleton; framework. This is based on a more or less objective assessment. It's not rocket science.

It's not based on your opinions.

Go off on your personal opinions all you want about how you love this album. Nobody really cares.

STOP, however, mixing your opinions with the infrastructure of what MA is supposed to be. Without that tenor and gist intact, you have something else. MA is something else right now.

We are not happy about it. Now it also happens to be that there is also a collective opinion about the quality as well but that does not give credence to somebody such as yourself to point out that our gripe

is baseless and only accounting for opinion. It's NOT. Last time I am addressing you. If you still don't get it, do some homework. Go back, re-read the posts contributed by the members of this board including my posts to you.

PS I was saying that YOU are not the true MA fan. You like other things and embraced those things under the Morbid Angel umbrella.

I think he's talking about his Street Fighter gif from Akuma.

-general insults, stuff like the whole "you're not a real fan" spiel; this is quite honestly one of the most clueless accusations you can make about the bulk of the posters who venture into, and comment on the threads, within this subforum
I appreciate that you direct the attention at me, but it was TranscendingMusic who said that. You can have that discussion with him.
RIGHT ON THE FIRST PAGE, YOU INSUFFERABLE FUCKHOLE
I really can't believe any real Morbid Angel fan could hate it so much.
it's blatantly obvious now this hard-on bearer is just attempting to troll. his endless dumbassery is clearly deliberate, and the only contributions he makes outside of blatantly antagonizing people, is to fellate dave vincent. he is a worthless and terrible poster.
I think he's talking about his Street Fighter gif from Akuma.
oh yeah i know. i just meant like, which SF game was he referring to, and who his main character actually is :redneck:

WhereTheSlimeLives - thank you for showing me some of this BRIGHT moments on MABB :redneck:

Those two posts from Pulsar are really funny  And the one with TranscendingMusic was really spot on

With Derek Waters and Maze you sucessfully showed that some people here are so busy puting you (WTSL) down, that they don't even read their own posts or posts of their MABB friends correctly - they should sort out things with themselves first :redneck:

Derek Waters - you said ''general insults, stuff like the whole "you're not a real fan" what has that got to do with this sentence from WTSL ''I really can't believe any real Morbid Angel fan could hate it so much.''

No. I say let him post. It is up to each of us whether we choose to engage him or not.

As the saying goes "I may disagree with what you have to say, but I shall defend, to the death, your right to say it."

WE can collectively and individually make the choice whether to reply to his posts or not. Whether he is intentionally stirring shit or not do not let him get to you if you feel he is. This is the MABB, it can be handled.

Says Verbal, the troll of all trolls :mmno:

WTSL: as you are the only one who has yet heard the album multiple times as a whole; you're opinion is valid, but please respect that every individual here has also valid reasons for different viewpoints, which maybe change when they can hear the album multiple times as a whole.

Others should just lighten up. Listen to the album first.

When listening to a breakcore act as Bong Ra from my own hometown, it is valid that Morbid Angel are not as extreme as they claim to be with this new direction.

We've heard it all before and executed better by the artists that have been doing this for many many years instead of a gotten-out-of-hand-hobby-level execution.

This mediocreness implies that they are aiming for a bigger audience aka 'sell out'. It doesn't matter anyway, as no band sells a lot of cd's anymore nowadays. It's only about the packaging/shirts/concerts.

In Dutch we say 'Schoenmaker blijf bij je leest'.

my 2 cents

We can hate it because it is the most lazy, bland, and uninspired record they have ever put out.

I have said this multiple times. There is no meat or depth to this record. The previous records in the MA catalogue [not so much with Domination] were like being guided through the universe on a journey through the stars, weaving through the cosmos and being assaulted by beauty and depth in the forms of poetry and music with such incredible elegance and thought that only MA could deliver.

Illud is like having a caveman hit you over the head with a stick and screaming at you. :redneck:

There's nothing to dissect with Illud; it's just a bouncy JUMP DA FUK UP record in the vein of Rob Zombie, Rammstein, and any other Industrial band you want to throw out there. It's a void that will devour this band's potential if this record sells well and they continue on this path. If they escape the void they will consider it a mere hiccup and continue on the path that was left off with Heretic.

I have decided that I'm going to buy the album when it's half-priced, since I only likely will like half of the album.

Derek Waters - first of all, WhatWhereTheSlimeLives said was not an insult by no means and second is that he just simply didn't say this "you're not a real fan" :redneck:

It's obvious that you can't grasp what you and TranscendingMusic are writting in your own posts. Can't you see that you are puting your/others words into WTSL's mouth? You really are desperate at achieving NOTHING!

I don't see the problem, just go and read what Derek Waters wrote and than read what WTSL wrote and honestly tell yourself if isn't there a chance that Derek Waters mixed it up a little in the heat of battle? :redneck:

Where I live, we don't think of the obvious truth as cocky. Even a Slovenian can see an obvious english lie.

I'm beginning to think that all the people who are blindly praising Illud are PR drones.

What I'd like to see is an actual band member come on here and talk to us.

There is a clear difference between people praising it and the people trolling it.
