there's certainly a lot of room for criticizing things about anus; i've brought up the subject of their truly terribly written reviews here a number of times. when it comes down to it though, the whole dark legions archive thing is second-to-none in terms of a centralized list of metal essentials.
Those Anus reviews were originally written that way as a joke, and then the style was continued because the site got popular. They lack discernible substance, but the absence of pro-nouns is refreshing.
Massacra is too bland...too mechanical for me. I can't get into it.
A rage of vocalist churlish hurls a howling sequential cadenced murmur topping volume of percussive guitars moving a tonal center in arpeggio around which undulation in rhythm encodes dialogue internal to placement at that space within a counterpoint warplan of colliding halves, complementary, founding a justified jihad within the place of motivic change and motion, wavelike curling and collisive, to which songs adhere in wisdom of pop music using melodic hook underneath the thrusting roar, an american trailer Mozart creating from the trash of dead empires a rhythmic delivery of larger vision (thus inconvenient; thus resurrective; thus immortal pyrrhic like the dead empires themselves).
Signs of The Decline is my favorite due to the drummer playing on that album. Awesome style. But the first three all rule in their own way. Haven't heard the later stuff though.
