Death Metal bands paying tribute to the Ancient Ones

Post by Those Insane Gods »

Metallica was to my knowledge probably the first extreme Metal band to have Lovecraft inspired lyrics. Call of Ktulu and The Thing That Should Not Be. Morbid Angel are obvious of course. But a heap of bands have followed in their footsteps. This thread is dedicated to Death Metal bands (or just Metal bands in general) who share some these themes.

Mexico

Cenotaph

Shub Niggurath

Poland

Imperator

Pandemonium

Vader

Sweden

Grotesque

Hypocrisy

Liers In Wait

USA

Deicide

Hate Eternal

Morbid Angel

Ripping Corpse

Keep em coming

Yeah maybe. It's still Morbid Angel related though.

I think a lot of bands have used lovecraft/Howard like subjects in their songs but not everyone named them the ancient ones. I know plenty of older Dutch bands who wrote about that stuff. The whole "ancient ones" theme for lack of a better word has been THE main topic in all i've ever done with the bands i've played in since i was 16 or so. From Lovecraft and Howard to the necronomicon to Egytian and Mesopotamian myth and magic. I stumbled on it when i bought a secondhand Lovecraft compilation called Heksen sabbat from the late 60's. Lovecraft didn't call them the ancient ones though. He spoke of the Old ones.
