Thanks for the Terrorizer recap.

Found guitarist Trey Azagthoth gives us his thoughts on the direction of Illud Divinum Insanus, David's return and why he feels like an alien.

Where did the inspiration for some of the more unorthodox tracks on Illud Divinum Insanus come from?

In the past few years, I've been really getting into different types of music, including a lot of electronic music. I get bored of doing the same thing over and over again; it's popular, but I never did things for that. I do things because I'm an artist - I like to create. There are definitely songs on [the album] that are inspired by terrorcore, hardcore and industrial and the way I look at it, whatever comes out of the speakers, whether it's a real live drummer or a programmed beat with synthesizers, is energy, and that's what I look for.

Does it concern you about how people will react to those elements?

No, not really. Even with the very first record, when we got Pete [Sandoval] in after doing the demo with a different line-up, there were a few people on the scene saying, 'Pete's going to ruin your band!'. With every record we do, some people will say, 'That's not what I expected, but I listened to it and digested it, and it's really cool'. I think, at this point, after so many years, there's no shock that we'd try a different thing.

Are you comfortable with the attention that David's return is receiving?

There's nothing to defend. I think everybody has their own story, that's just the way life is. I'm just doing my thing, David's doing his thing, we're doing it together and it's going great, and it's up to people to interpret it however they want. I'm definitely not into being in the spotlight. I just do my thing, for the love of music, and to hopefully share and express something that maybe inspire them in some way. To me, that's the real value.

What are your regrets about the period where David had left the band?

To be honest, on the last few records that I did without David my material was bigger than the technology or my skillset as far as actually mixing. My material expected way more out of say, Pete, than what was even possible to play.

Do you ever worry that you might never be fully satisfied with your work?

Well, everything's dated. When it's out, it's in that time, and that's it. What we all consider to be awesome at one point might just be good later in life, because we have new reference points, and we've grown.

How would you like to be remembered by your fans?

Maybe inspiring them in some way. I'm all about the sickets, most fucked-up music ever. I never really felt like I was part of this world, like I fit into society's place for me. I've always felt like an alien. I'm here, doing my best but I seem to think differently, have different ways about my mind and have different interests.

The short Trey interview I posted is from Terrorizer. I just transcribed it so that everyone here could it read. I sadly don't have a scanner.

[David] Vincent knew early on that the album was going to be something different for Morbid Angel. "When Trey was working on this material, I walked into the studio and heard stuff that didn't even sound like a guitar," he recalls. "It sounded like dinosaurs in an intergalactic battle or something. I just heard this convulsing coming through the speakers. He wanted to play me more, but I was was like, 'You know what? I don't even wanna be here right now. Whatever it is that you're doing, please keep doing it. Let me know when it's done.' On some of these songs, Trey has up to 72 guitar tracks. It's really going off. It's Richter. It's just so fucking creative and gorgeous and really out in left field. Fuck, I actually sang a song that's about 30 percent Spanish, just because it sounded cool coming out of my mouth.

He joined Hate Eternal at age 17. He turned 21 on november 1999 and Conquering the Throne was released in the same month.

He was 20 when he played- recorded for the album(spring 1999).
