Currently reading Sixx's "Heroin Diaries" and it's set in the time before GNR and Appetite had broke. GNR were still a club band but doing well in the LA scene.
Nikki and Slash were buddies from the scene and there's an entry where Nikki writes something like this (I sard finding it and quoting exactly):
"fuck I hate Whitesnake and their corporate rip-off-of-us style. I want to have Slash's band open for us, that'd be fun, serious partying!
His band are OK and they're nice guys, but their singer is a fucking asshole!"
