Personally, after many years on this board, I am not fazed by some of the racist comments made. However, do you folks think that perhaps the racist utterances are becoming more regular these days?
For Ryan this is a very casual, every day affair. Now SCUNT is out to prove how 'cool' he is with the following comment:
I believe she was going off about the case above. A little nigglette got shot by a community patrol member (uppity citizens that want to be vice squad) and now all the blacks are all KILL WHITEY LOL U RAPED MY ANSCESTORS THE BLACK MAN IS BEING HELD DOWN AGAIN BY THE WHITE MAN etc

Some of the comments in that thread were a bit dodgy alright.
When that hard-on bearer left because of the "secretary of state cube" chili cheese fries, I thought it was funny. But it really wasnt. It makes me wonder how many lurkers felt the same way and left without even posting. Yes, it's a chili cheese fries and they are hilarious. But its also a word that reflects very poorly on a group's character.
My understanding is that racism works both ways in America and that plenty of whites are made to feel like shit at school or on the streets etc etc but it doesnt really justify using racist terminology on a web forum. Thats kind of 4 chan behaviour if you ask me.
This may be kind of naive to say but I believe in freedom of speech, joking around is one thing and I think that's what the "racist" stuff on this board is most of the time. But I believe everyone should be able to say what they want, regardless of my personal feelings for or against it this includes "racist" comments. If the community they are saying it in is apathetic or endorses it than that's the community's choice. If they get uppity and allow words to have power over individuals that is also their choice. As a young teenager I would joke around with my friends and use racial slurs because they were new and "shocking" then I grew up and realized how ignorant joking around with them is and stopped that's my personal choice, I don't condone racism and don't use racial slurs (trying not to curse anymore either due to my choice in career) but it's people's rights to their views and the terms they choose to use. It's also their right to deal with the consequences whatever they may be.
My view the biggest thing an individual can do is learn to conquer their emotions over words. It's sad to say but people are going to be ignorant and as adults its best to suck it up and be the bigger person for the most part. I did this with words like dyke, cunt, ect doesn't bother me in the slightest if people use them and never will. There are times you need to fight back but I think the board's humor isn't one of them.

Hope I didn't ramble and made sense.
I believe people should be aloud say whatever they want too, thats not the point.
Its the motivations of racist behaviour that worries me, not the abilty of a racist to express him or herself.
racist jokes are funny
This. I find it very easy to tell who really does have a problem with other races. Said people get a little too serious and verbose in race-touchy situations. Have a good laugh at a secretary of state joke and lighten the fuck up. And if you're really prejudiced, then be honest and forthright about it, asshole.
Yea. It's just a website. A movie that contains racism is just a movie. A song that contains racism is just a song. Etc. What's your point?
There are precious few people in this world who never say something just to look cool, so I usually don't point fingers at bandwagon jumpers. It's the goddamn shadowalk's greatest fear stealing the wheels off the bandwagon that really bother me.
