Rapture Appreciation

Post by zim »

One of MA's most crushing songs. The drumming is just phenomenal, and the guitar playing? forget about it! :bang: :bang: :bang:
Treys solo tone actually sounds a bit thin to me on Domination. It's definitely got a wah sound to it, even if he's not moving it with food it sounds like he has it turned on.
This wasn't my first MA song but the first time I heard it, circa 1993, I realized that MA broke a barrier between getting to essence of writing a fruital yet elegant song and also truly creating a sonic soundscape that supports it. I think MA always had subconsiously understood that the sonic aspect needed to change for death metal, and Blessed being the first attempt at that, but I really think Covenant is where it suddenly "locked in".

Then I remember seeing the video on MTV no less, not too long after that and my hair just stood on end!
