refrigerating the onions ahead of time should drastically cut that down. it mostly shuts down one of the enzymes involved in the chemical reaction that procudes the effect

I like good soup, but I'm lazy person, so mostly I just pour water to the pot, put some vegetable broth, frozen vegetables package and spices. It's ready in 20 minutes.
