At this point, most senior leaders in the Republican Party, even Karen Laugher who lost the Georgia Senate seat today, have clearly distanced themselves from T.rump because of these events, well, all except dumbshit Ted Cruz.

It is going to be a crazy 12 more days of being in office for T.rump if he is not impeached. But whatever, what's really important is not his impeachment, it is that he should get arrested and be put in Jail, so that his movement can die with him. That's what's really important.

Ilhan Omar is already drawing up articles of impeachment. If he's not removed from office tomorrow what's even the point of having laws?

for the record i won't be doing that, as there's almost no chance i could get the money together in time to do it. but i do think it would be the smart move.

talked to my sister on the phone earlier who is a pretty hardcore republican (though she was never into any of the crazy election conspiracies that I am aware of) - she was in tears on the phone and couldn't believe what was happening today - "this isn't who we are! this is insane! this is unamerican!" she kept repeating. I did my best not to scold her though I did let slip that "no, for the last 4 years this is exactly what you've supported. maybe you need to reexamine your beliefs and think about what it is exactly that you support."

maybe this, fucking finally, will be a turning point for a lot of people.... well, one can hope at least.

Using those standards of net human suffering you don't have to restrict yourself to Republicans. Obama's presidency caused immense human suffering that dwarfs T.rump's contribution - Obama really lit up a large part of the world in flames by sponsoring coups and direct military action. The formation of ISIS was in large part due to the aerial bombardment of Libya and Syria - which weakened the secular governments and created the perfect vacuum for terrorists to fill in. Progressive societies went to the stone-age, other places went to Fascism (Ukraine) due to Obama's interventions.

As for T.rump, while it can be argued that he did not wage wars, he certainly caused 365,000 deaths in America by his criminal attitude towards the Pandemic. These deaths can be laid squarely at his feet. If you count deaths caused by his inequality creating economic program, then the figure grows larger. But don't give T.rump too much credit for not waging wars, he almost did numerous times, with Iran and Venezuela.

I am relatively optimistic about Biden's government. If he doesn't start new wars, and just sticks to economic recovery, that will be good. I'm not too keen on his serious hostility towards Russia and China though. I don't think those are going to be good for the world at large.
