Putting him in jail as a convicted criminal will achieve the same effect of barring him from future presidency. The benefit of one over the other is that the Dems are not going to get the votes for impeachment, so it's going to be a waste of time. They can however in earnest put the time and effort in preparing the evidence and legal cases.
