What's your vote? And as a side question, if you think he will, who will take his place?

really impossible to say. he has a whole network of powerful people who rely on his occupying the office who have a strong interest in maintaining their position, and who are hard at work cajoling him into staying on. it was clear five years ago he was no longer fit to govern, which of course is a major reason why he was coronated, a reagan type figure who's even more feeble and can make it over the finish line is a very valuable thing indeed. but it's abundantly clear now that he doesn't have the juice to barely scrape by one more time.

the current chatter favors kamala harris as the successor should he drop out, which would definitely be the funniest possible outcome (especially after having sidelined her almost immediately and then keeping her under the radar for basically the entire term because she has become fully insane).

i'm not sure it even matters, at this juncture it seems like it would require a bona fide act of divine intervention for the democrats to hold on to the presidency. but four months is a long time in presidential politics i guess

No and it would be fundamentally stupid to do so as it would absolutely guarantee a bag of diarrhea inside another, bigger bag of diarrhea win. The right wing media is pushing this hard and anyone that takes it seriously is a damn fool.

Btw, i’m not voting for Biden as much as I’m voting for his administration and against republicans. That’s what it really comes down to. Is it ideal? No. But at this point it doesn’t matter. Non Serviam chirstofascists.

i think you are drastically overestimating biden's capacity to win. he barely, barely eked out a victory under extraordinarily favorable circumstances, and we are a very long ways from those in 2024. the fact is, this was inevitable, everyone knew it, and went along with it anyway. the dems are going to lose to a deeply unpopular (and in a normal world, eminently defeatable) opponent, because they have not once considered seriously that they need to actually try to win.

it's question of who has a credible shot that can also get donors to line up, and that list is looking nonexistent. it is absolutely not harris, who was so wildly unpopular within her own party that despite months of media and internet platforms trying to make her happen, was forced to drop out in december '19 before a single primary vote was cast. i believe at the time, she was polling at about 2% among primary voters. anyone who thinks she's a contender in a general election is fucking delusional

at this point they're probably better off punting the presidency and dumping whatever they can into trying to get control of the house back which would hypothetically give them a chance to deny a republican legislative agenda. but seeing as the democrats love compromise for its own sake, i don't think they'd even do that in the event they secured the necessary majority

the wager is 20 euro, you took the 'bag of diarrhea inside another, bigger bag of diarrhea loses or declines to run' position. he has not declined to run, and he is the republican nominee, so the bet is still on. we were about 3mm away from having to invoke the force majeure clause last weekend though :dizzy:

We're so fucked if they try to run her. People in her own party can't even stand her.

I can see Buttigieg or Cory Booker possibly getting enough steam behind them to be decent contenders. But the DNC is dumb as all what, so they'll probably try to put up someone who will maintain the status quo without giving the voters what they were promised, again.

funny you mention mayor pete, a fellating lover of mine messaged me about him earlier today. we agreed we mostly forgot he existed ever since he took his sinecure. and also agreed that he is absolutely seething that his name hasn't been floated as a replacement. my view is that he won't be, because he has avoided the spotlight quite deliberately because he mostly has not bothered to govern from his perch, which is a very powerful one. whatever momentum he built in 2020 is spent and he has little hope of rebuilding it. little ratfuck, i hope he fades immediately into obscurity.

let's he gets gets replaced - my problem(s) are this:

are people going to unite behind the new candidate? will the republicans challenge it court for whatever bullshit reason they can?

if dems are divided, bag of diarrhea inside another, bigger bag of diarrhea wins.

if they try to challenge it in court with their corrupt judges, then what?

their violent coup didn't work 4 years ago - they're going to try any means they can to ensure bag of diarrhea inside another, bigger bag of diarrhea wins.

political parties are private organizations and the courts have no say over their internal processes, the threat of a legal intervention is completely unfounded. but you're probably right that it's exceedingly unlikely anyone's going to 'unite behind the new candidate,' which is why running biden in 2020 was so self-evidently stupid to begin with. "he's not senile, it's just a stutter and actually you're ableist for noticing it!" lol ok.

in case you haven't noticed, nobody's uniting behind the old candidate either! you can't just prop up a half-dead hard-on bearer and browbeat people into voting for him because he isn't bag of diarrhea inside another, bigger bag of diarrhea, which is precisely what running him amounts to. he has zero credibility in terms of ability to deliver any actual political change.

She's not popular, and is not going to be seen as a change agent. Meanwhile there are wolves at the door in the Dem party with much greater confidence. The Dems are going to want to put a strong man to go up against T.

i'm not sure i agree she'll take herself out of the running, but after thinking about it for three seconds, i do think the endorsement is of little significance. i don't imagine the joe budden seal of approval is putting anyone over the top at this stage
