This. The day I saw that Chuck had shuffled off this mortal coil, that was the album I reached for.

I think we may have worn out the afterlife bashing. So I won't say anything about it.

Re: Have you ever imagined...
Comparison is futile.
Both bands in their own way have shown how wide the deathmetal spectrum can be.
Death once did a song called Rise of satan, probably written by Kam Lee, the rest of the lyrics range from gallo-movie lyrics to reality stuff to psychological stuff, while Morbid Angel went for the dark metaphysical poetry to self empowerment stuff. In a way they both ended up writing about mind-issues.

Re: Have you ever imagined...
i find it kinda funny the only retort he could come up with was taking a jab at MA's instrumentation. it's so insubstantial, why even bother with such a silly argument. his defenses of the material were equally lame, talking about production techniques and sound. i think trey was addressing the music, not its trappings.
Am I the only one that thinks Death were over rated?
nope, not at all. SBG/leprosy were decent, spiritual healing was awful, human was good, everything after that can be discarded as far as i'm concerned.

He mostly adresses the satanic lyrics since Blessed are the sick came out at the time. Trey probably critisized the decline of 'evilness' in Death's music, being replaced by intelligence. Comparison to a speedmetalband like Metallica is somewhat crooked since the vocals are not clean.

Disagreement with this. SBG is great but a Seven churches rip-off. Leprosy is great with the Massacre element, SH is a transition album and indeed lacks brutality, but was getting somewhat pretty technical at the time for this type of music. Human is great. Individual thought patterns is great, Symbolic is great too, but a shift from deathmetal towards heavymetal with death vocals, Sound of perserverance went further unto the technical heavymetal path.
These styles weren't there at the time, making most albums pushing the musical boundaries of what deathmetal can be. Nothing overrated about Death.

I still think they are over rated.Talented musicians for sure, but some of their music bored me to tears. That's just me though.

Do I? My most sincere apologies.
And I would have said that to anyone.
And I couldn't care less what you think of Death.

I'll say it. Chuck Schuldiner's early death means his band gets more praise than it probably deserves.

I like Death but I also think they're very overrated.
Personally I don't think they even come close to MA

Stormicus has it though I did like SH.
That being said, Death will always be one of my favorite bands but that doesn't I like everything Mr. Schuldiner has done. Even Control Denied has good and bad moments as far as my opinion is concerned.
